How You Can Help

How about becoming a volunteer at our RDA branch or a RDA branch near you?  The smiles on the children's faces when they come for their riding are something to witness, and volunteering gives you satisfaction in the knowledge that you are making a positive difference to the disabled children and adults  in your community.

Even if you have never had anything to do with horses, we can teach you all you need to know.  If you are not keen on working in direct contact with our equine friends then there are plenty of other things that you can do to help us out.

Perhaps you would be keen to help with fundraising ventures, maybe you have a flair for organising such events.  If this is you, and you have got some spare hours to volunteer, then we need your help.

Please consider joining our happy band of staff, riders and volunteers - we would love to have you on board.  Phone us on (09) 438 7521 or send an e-mail to info@rdawhangarei.org.nz .

For the address of a RDA branch near you, please look on our Directory of Other RDA Groups section.

A Word from the Volunteers

"Having been a volunteer for three years, I have seen a great improvement in some of the children, one of the good things is seeing how they change as time goes by. I like working with the other volunteers and staff and have made some good friends. When I first started I had very little experience with horses but I really enjoy working with them. The horses all have different characters, some better than others, but all are very docile."

Colin

"As a volunteer for RDA Whangarei, I have found it has given me a chance to fulfill my love of horses and to work with children with all kinds of disabilities and behaviour problems. Another plus is meeting fellow volunteers and friendly staff. I would recommend it to anyone who has spare time on their hands."

Jim

"I enjoy attending the RDA in Whangarei and look forward to each Thursday as it is my volunteer day. If I could, I would come every day. The staff and other volunteers are friendly and fun to work with. It's good to be back tending to horses, grooming them, mucking out stables, etc. Most delightful of all is seeing the children benefit so much from riding and the joy it brings them."
